So after my wife approved V8 S10 I am now looking for a truck and I found this!!!

Kinja'd!!!

https://www.copart.com/lot/50264378

Like this thing is perfect!!! I am willing to go drive and check it out it’s about 1-1/2hr from me. I am pretty positive it’s a ZR2. I don’t see any real damage at all and the Buy It Now is $500. Is there anything special about getting a car from CoPart? I signed up and I guess I could bid on it but I am scared I might lose it.

Thanks for any advice Oppo!

isnt copart just insurance auctions? as long as it doesnt require a business  license you should be good

https://www.copart.com/Content/US/EN/Support/How-to-Buy/Find-a-Broker

that might help too

For $500 you have nothing to lose. Just be aware, S10s are notorious for failing easily when not properly maintained. Good luck! It’s a good lightweight work truck. The Chevy version of the Ranger.

Definitely a ZR2. That’s a great place to start. The fenders and bed are actually different to support those flares. The frames on the ZR2 (and GMC Highrider) are better, too. More ... cross-braces, or something, I forget. My family had a bunch of ZR2s back in the day, including a 5 speed ZR2 Blazer.

ZR2 it is. Check for rust under the fender flares. And look real close and the frame behind the bumper, bumper looks like it is sagging, might have been rear ended and bent the frame - very common . My 2002 ZR2 was totaled out for the same reason.

Copart will USUALLY tell you the nature of the damage / reason for totalling if it’s non-obvious. e.g. Flood, Theft, Fire. However, they ALSO auction donated vehicles and have a good-running “startup car” program targeting first time car buyers and low-income folks. So find out which category the car sits in first and foremost.

This S10 indicates rear end damage. Unfortunately, having seen too many of these in my own shopping? It’s a Minnesota car. Salt, salt, and more salt. My bet is it got tapped in the rear, which bent the bumper. They went to fix it and found the frame was rotted out, and totaled it on the spot. Frame rot-out where it breaks in half at the bed is WAY too common on these.

Kinja'd!!!

No insurance company will accept a vehicle with unrepaired frame damage . Replacement of the frame costs more than the truck’s value, therefore, it gets totaled by the most minor of fender benders. The fact that they have no estimated retail value AND that low a buyout price on it? This is a parts car. Comps for this one still run $4k+.

In the case of your S10, here’s a comp:  https://www.copart.com/lot/34842498

As far as checking it out? Just call ahead to make sure you can. Most locations will let you inspect a vehicle in person. But don’t expect to get it on a lift or for the doors to be opened. It’s as-is, where-is, eyes only. And because of various state laws, you can ONLY inspect vehicles in the NEXT live auction and some Internet auctions. Have the lot number when you call to check.

If it is being sold by CoPart its being sold by an insurance company. The listing states rear end damage so I would guess the frame probably isn't straight in the back.

That’s why we put a V8 in it

I’ve bought a few cars from them. Half of the “run and drives” are still trash, but half are perfectly servicable . Also keep in mind additional fees will add 20-30% onto purchase price.

Always something minor breaks on my S-10 , now my carpet gets wet when it rains. Last week the arm rest broke and purchased a metal re-enforcement plate.

Very cheap to work on.

Buy it , worst case chop off and build a new frame behind the cab and you have a nice little off-road vehicle.

The listing states "primary damage: rear end". I think it's fair to say it was rear ended, but it doesn't look very severe.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

You need to really examine the ads on Copart. If you look really closely at the photos you can figure out they don’t mean rear as in the box of the truck. What they mean is someone damaged the rear of the cab when they evacuated a burrito and some Old Style.

Front suspension was 3 inches taller and wider. Rear was 3 inches taller. Bilstein shocks. Couple other differences but what a difference it made.

If you search for Damage Type: Biohazard, you can get some really good deals as long as you have a strong stomach.

There are a lot of cars where somebody offed themselves inside and made a yuuuuge mess all over the place. Everything else is great, except for the brain matter. A little bit of bleach is all you need and things should be good as new.

I mean you can, but I don’t know how many desert runs there are in Minnesota.

10/10 would daily. Even if it never saw the desert. Or mud. Or gravel. Mall parking lots can be fun, too. Fun watching a ll the CUV’s lining up to use a designated lot entrance/ exit and you can blast o ver curbs and what not at speed like Ivan Stewart.
